i don't get dumb phones

scaling back the time you spend mindlessly staring at your phone is a good idea, what i don't get are dumb phones. to my understanding, a dumb phone only has the simple apps, like calling, messages, camera and clock.

however, i really can't live my life with just that! and before you call me addicted, this is not about social media at all. i can't access my bank account without the phone app authenticator nor can i log into my university's systems without microsoft authenticator (rant about microsoft stuff being shoved down my throat due to my tech uni could be a post itself). i can't use public transport without the bus pass on my phone either. also can't get student discounts without the app because the only way to renew the physical card is to buy a new one (how ecological, not to mention the price of getting a new card every year). i don't think the grocery stores (or stores in general) around me do physical member cards anymore. i hear that some dorms require you to use an app to use the washing machine. if i were to fly somewhere with Ryanair for example, i'd need the app as well!

so like a cool idea in theory, but a dumb phone is just another piece of ewaste. i think i'll just stick to deleting social media apps, thanks
